Lights, Camera, Cape Town!
Filming in the Vibrant Bo-Kaap
Cape Town stands as a vibrant hub for filmmakers, drawing productions from across the globe with its diverse landscapes, film-friendly community, and excellent infrastructure. Some notable productions recently filmed here include Netflix’s One Piece, Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi, The Woman King, Raised by Wolves, and more, showcasing the city’s versatility for various storytelling genres.
But perhaps one of the most iconic and visually striking neighbourhoods in Cape Town is the historic Bo-Kaap. Nestled at the foot of Signal Hill, this vibrant area is renowned for its colourful houses, cobblestone streets, and rich cultural heritage. Filming in the Bo-Kaap is a unique experience that offers filmmakers the opportunity to capture the essence of Cape Town’s diverse and colourful tapestry.

At Thank You Kindly, Bobby, we count ourselves incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to film two seasons of our original Competition Reality format, Hair to the Throne, in the Bo-Kaap. Not only did we have the privilege of showcasing this picturesque neighbourhood on screen, but we also had the chance to support local businesses and communities in the process. From utilising local infrastructure to sourcing catering from beloved establishments like the Bo-Kaap Deli, we made it a priority to invest in and support the vibrant community that calls the Bo-Kaap home.
As we reflect on our time filming in the Bo-Kaap, we are reminded of the incredible beauty and diversity of Cape Town. From its natural landscapes to its vibrant neighbourhoods, Cape Town truly has something special to offer filmmakers and storytellers from around the world.
So here’s to Cape Town, our beloved ‘little Hollywood,’ and to the colourful, vibrant spirit of the Bo-Kaap. Lights, camera, Cape Town – the adventure continues!
Love, The Bobbies
